Just so thrilled today

Nothing spectacular has happened to Rassilon today. I did well at work though. A part of the job they thought would take half a day to teach me I learned in half an hour.

The main part of the job is putting medical files in boxes and tracking the files on the computer (there are other things involved, but that is basically it). We have to do 20 boxes a day. I had my 20 boxes out for Tuesday and as soon as the courier took them away I was able to put down 20 boxes for Wednesday, and I still have 10 boxes in the office, and my typing speed needs to improve on the number pad.

I have to have a day off in August and I want to have 20 boxes to put out even though I will not be there, so I have to do a few extra each day.

Anyway. I got home and Rassilon went mad as usual. He had a long zoomie around the garden. Unfortunately the ground is wet and soft, and as he runs he churns it up and there is dirt and bits of grass flying everywhere. He jumped up to get his frozen chicken…Did I mention how tall he is?

Then later we were playing inside, and I just remember how he was when he first got here. The things I was doing today would have had him cowering in a corner, especially when I viciously beat him with … sock. He just stood there.

This morning I smoothed out his orange eye protection and put it on him. You can see his reaction. The ‘I don’t care’ attitude.

I can see and I don't care! (You can see his eyes through the mesh, so he can see out).

I am so thrilled at how good he is now, and I am happy to see the changes happening.

Birthday treat arrived.

I got home from work today and there was a package waiting for me. I knew straight away what it was. It was Rassilons birthday present.

2 pairs of eye protection. One pair of sun glasses and one mesh eye guard. That will be good in the car when he sticks his head out the window. It will protect him should anything flick up from the road, or a bug flies into his face.

He appeared to like the glasses, but tries to get the mesh guard off, maybe because it is a bit big at the moment and was irritating him. But, he is a cool dude now.

It must have been cold last night, I had 2 quilts on the bed, the fan heater going, and Rassilon came to bed as well. Normally he will come to bed for a short time then go back to his own bed, but last night…he stayed all night.

With a forecast of 4 degrees tonight, I think he might be joining me again.

Rassilon lays on top of the bed. unlike my Dobermans” who liked (demanded) to come INTO the bed. It was because of a dog that I bought a queen sized bed, so we both had room. It’s OK though, it runs in the family. My mother just bought a double bed for her and Mitzi.

Oh Well, another cold night with nothing to do but snuggle up in bed…with Rassilon.

Oh, I have ordered another collar for Rassilon and one for Mitzi. They are personalized with the dogs name and phone number. (Does anyone else think this is normal, because I am having my doubts!!)

Sunday Stroll

I was up early this morning working on the computer. There are three houses being built on a block of land that used to have 1 house on it, which means we are going to have some new neighbours.

What I have been doing is taking photos of the building project of the house right next to me, and I am putting them together like a movie, complete with titles, captions and music for the people when they move in. The house is only up to the frame stage now, so I have saved the video project so I can add to it as more gets done to the house.

That's their floor sab right against my driveway.

This is how close they will be. That’s their floor slab right against my driveway, and their garage wall will be right on he edge of that.

So, I was up early this morning, because I couldn’t sleep, I fed Rassilon who went and had a short sleep before coming and pestering me.

Have you ever tried to type on a computer with a dog resting it’s head on your arm? It isn’t easy!!

So, getting his hint, we went for a nice long walk. We went from home to the main road, down to the shopping centre, around the back of that and back home the way we came (because my knees were sore).

On the way we had a woman and her dog following us , and Rassilon was walking all over the place because he was too interested in what was behind him, so we pulled over and let the woman through. Once she was in front, Ras walked perfectly.

On the way back we stopped in at the vet so I could (a) weigh Rassilon, and (b) get him used to going to the vet. After I dragged him through the door, he weighed in at 36.4Kg,s, like me, he is a bit over weight. He should weigh about 33Kg (Actually, I am not over weight, I am under tall. If I hadn’t annoyed that witchdoctor everything would be fine).

Once he was weighed, I was talking to one of the girls that works their and we were standing next to the door to the room Rassilon last went into, and he was pushing against me to get away from that door he was hurting my legs, which aren’t supposed to bend the way he was pushing.

He obviously has a good memory, and doesn’t like the vet.  Well, we got home and Rassilon had some frozen chicken to cool him down, and he is now sleeping on his bed. I am thinking I might just go and have a nanna nap myself, after all, I have been up since 7.00am and I went to bed well after midnight.

So in to words of the Two Ronnies, It’s goodnight from me, and it’s goodnight from him.

WOOF, translation, I want to go for a walk!

So I got up and took Ras for a walk. It’s all right for him, he can sleep all day,  where I have to go to work and walk around for most of the day. I am in training at the moment. The girl that is teaching me told me she had a months training. I am getting a week! But with all the walking involved, by the time I get home I usually just go and have a nap and Rassilon doesn’t get a walk. Yesterday I did have a good excuse, it was raining.

So today I thought I need to take him out, so I got up early to go for a walk. It was a bit cool this morning, so Rassilon wore a coat. Not the big long polar fleece one, but one that keeps his body warm without covering his legs. He seemed to enjoy it, there was no panting as we walked.

His coat is, obviously, personalized with the seal of Rassilon on it, and it is in bright colours.

3 Years Old…TODAY

This is a very special day. It is Rassilons’ 3rd birthday.

Happy Birthday Rassilon. I am so blessed to have you with me.

Happy Birthday Rassilon. I am so blessed to have you with me.

As a sort of tradition, he had Hot Dogs for breakfast. Last year I forgot his birthday because I had only just got him 10 days earlier, so in a mad effort to make it different, I bought a hot dog from work. I doubt that he had ever had a hot dog before, and he really enjoyed it, as you can see

(Before anyone complains about him being so skinny and being able to see his ribs, this is how a greyhound should be. You should be able to see the last three ribs, at least 2 vertebrae of his spine and his hip bones).

But this year I am better prepared and have ordered him some ‘doggles’ to protect his eyes and make him look COOL. And yesterday I bought him some snacks and treats to eat, (his favorite hobby).

To try to stop him looking behind as much

To make him look COOL.

To make him look COOL.

Just a bit more to add to the wardrobe, but he is worth it.

From the person that writes a blog about a DOG! (No dog in this post)

Yes, I write a blog about a dog, or as the Scottish would have it, a dug. (Watch comedian Kevin Bridges videos on YouTube).

Readers would probably consider the following to be true of me.

What people think...

What people think…

But sadly, this is closer to the truth…

Closer to the truth that I let on.

Closer to the truth that I let on.

With a twisted sense of humor and a good memory for subtle insults…well, different people think different things. Sadly, Australians generally don’t get the subtle, and don’t understand the intended humor, (generally. Some do get the jokes).

The Shakespeare connection.

It was Shakespeare that coined the phrase “A feast fit for a king”.

We might think of a lovely roast dinner with all the trimmings. Perhaps a Christmas dinner or (if you’re American) Thanksgiving dinner.

But if you are a greyhound there is a feast fit for you…chickens feet.
