Before Mitzi left we had an afternoon nap, (yes I know it’s called a nanna nap).
How do 1 big dog and 1 small dog sleep together on a bed with their owner/guardian?
They firstly have to get close, possibly laying on each other,
After a while it changes from laying on to intertwining.
And I was left with about 1 quarter of the bed while Rassilon took control and sprawled out, even laying on Mitzi.
Rassilon and Mitzi got along SOOO well, which was amazing because Rassilon DIDN’T get on with Elli, another greyhound.
Day one without Mitzi. Rassilon is better today than he has been for a while, but he had a dose of Rescue Remedy with his breakfast this morning, and he is certainly more frisky today, well he was when he barked at me and jumped on the bed and wanted to play.
His summer coat says “Tall, Dark, Handsome and Adorable”. And looking at a photo like this, who can argue.
When I first saw him I wasn’t impressed because he doesn’t have a prominent forehead, but you soon get used to that and eventually think he looks much better than the dogs with the more prominent forehead.
As for getting over Mitzi, I think Rassilon is coping. At least he seemed he seemed relaxed enough this morning.
Anyway, happy new year to anyone that reads this blog. It was my first Christmas and New Year with Rassilon, and I enjoyed it. When I think of some of the people that might have got Rassi, and how they treat their dogs, I am sure he enjoyed it too.
It was a sad day for Rassilon and Mitzi. My mother came home from her 6 week holiday in Tasmania. I went to the airport to pick her up and took Mitzi with me.
Unfortunately, Mitzi has had 6 weeks to forget her, especially as that 6 weeks was filled with a full time companion…Rassilon. So there wasn’t the big warm greeting when my mother got in the car, in fact, I had to lift Mitzi from the back seat.
And Rassilon may need to go back on his Rescue Remedy drops for a while, or even another course of antibiotics. He was nervous around my mother tonight, and when she turned the air conditioner on, he jumped up on the settee with me. Yesterday we all went to the beach, and there was a young boy digging in the sand, and we went over and he patted Rassilon and Mitzi, and Rassilon didn’t seem to mind that. (I try to introduce Rassilon to people so he can get used to people).
He is not going to enjoy himself over the weekend because the temperature is going to be up in the 40’s and Rassi doesn’t like the heat or humidity.
I have started introducing him to the paddling pool that he uses as a giant water bowl. I got him to give me his paw and I paddled it in the water until he had enough, then I did the same with the other paw. Because of his nervous disposition I don’t want to rush him or I might put him off the pool altogether.
I think he is going to miss Mitzi around the place for a while, but it only took 6 weeks for them to forget my mother, so he will get over it, and we will still go and visit.
There was a radio show many, many years ago called The Shadow, and it started with the line “The Shadow Knows”.
When I came home from work one day, I saw Mitzi waiting on the window sill as usual. There was a reflection of a tree in the window, but you could see Mitzi (and hear Rassilon barking), so I took a picture with my phone.
Later, when looking closely at the photo, in the reflection and standing back a bit was my shadow, watching all that was going on. They say greyhounds don’t make good guard dogs, but so far, all that the experts say about greyhounds, Rassilon has ignored. And I think just the sight like the picture, would make anyone consider entering this house.
On the other hand, if you live in the house you need to keep EVERYTHING under lock and key.
I have collected socks, handkerchiefs, shoes even tee-shirts from the back yard. And it isn’t hard to guess who is responsible especially when they choose the next target while you are watching. Can you guess what he has chosen?
It is nice when two dogs get along, but it is even better when they support each other.
I was patting Rassilon and Mitzi wanted to be patted, but because Rassi was standing in front of me, she couldn’t get to me, so she jumped up and leaned against Rassilon, who obviously, didn’t care
Later, when they were worn out from all their patting, they went to bed. Rassilon, being the gentleman he is, decided that Mitzi looked like a pillow, and used her as one.
A workmate brought in a Santa hat for Rassilon. At first he thought it was a muzzle, so he stuck his nose in it.
He wasn’t too keen on wearing it as a hat, but once it was on, he seemed to put up with it.
Mitzi didn’t like it much either, so it was a quick photo.
Go on, admit it, Rassilon is a handsome boy, even with a Santa hat.
